A sad day for American journalism to hear that this magnificent man will be leaving us. His books and articles have occupied much of mine and my family’s reading for years now. Always the gentleman, measured and wise, his voice is an antidote to the more brash contributors. We have always loved him. Here’s hoping he has a peaceful time with his family and friends over the coming weeks.
